Just got an interesting e-mail from the ANA - lower cost to insure shipments

claychaserclaychaser Posts: 4,406 ✭✭✭✭
For $45 a year, they are offerring shipping insurance. There are some restrictions on boxes (must be double boxed) and days to ship, so read the stuff carefully. But at 18 cents per hundred dollars, this is a fraction of what the PO charges and you can use Fed Ex or UPS.

NACA offers savings on shipping insurance
The American Numismatic Association and the North American Collectibles Association announced a new benefit offer for ANA members interested in saving money on shipping insurance.
ANA members who join the NACA for a low, introductory $45 membership fee can take advantage of the popular online program ShipandInsure.com.
Huge savings can be realized on the first few packages insured through ShipandInsure.com. Domestic and international packages are fully covered, with no deductible up to $75,000 depending on method of shipment. Higher limits are routinely approved by a simple phone call request.
Hundreds and thousands can be saved through ShipandInsure.com. The cost per $100 value is much lower than through the shippers. Shipping insurance is easy to purchase online for FedEx, UPS and USPS shipping options. Processing insurance online is safe and secure. Claims are paid promptly.

    A few caveats:

    $1.50 min per shipment
    Doesn't cover First Class
    Yearly fee

I'd bet that some of the other insurers, such as Shipsurance, are a better deal for those who aren't really heavy shippers.

    Who do you use, Jeremy?
I am one of the "not so frequent" shippers and was recently wondering if there was any company worth going to and how they work?
To me, I am a bit concerned as I view it as I do other insurance.......easy to pay for the coverage, but the proof is in the way they handle claims. Do they have a policy of not paying out, having someone jump through impossible hoops, just need records, etc?

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I recently contacted shipinsurance.com, and as a dealer I'm sure I ship more than the average collector. But with a few packages per month of high value (self insurance for the low value packages) they said I wasn't their target market. I told them I should probably stick to parcel pro anyway since they have good rates and great service. Then they got much more interested in trying to steal me from the competition. I told them they missed their chance. --Jerry

I have a blanket policy under my dealer policy. I like it better than the one mentioned here.

That's fine for blankets, but what about coins?

Why would I insure my coins when my blankets are safe?

  • If you do the math this is not that great of a deal. Maybe if your HSN it might be cheaper but most collector you would be better off not paying the $45

I read through all the information on this outfit, but stopped when I saw that it was only for shipping from business to business. I do not have a business.

"For full coverage, shipments must be business to business. This can be a licensed home business. Deliveries to home have a maximum limit of $10,000 unless pre-authorized by shipandinsure.com."
